The following are some books that teach about math concepts in a fun or interesting way. I will update the list as I hear about more good reads. Feel free to suggest any books you find helpful.

Counting and Number Bonds

  • Ducks Away! by Mem Fox: counts up to and down from 5, includes number bonds of 5 (none and 5, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, 3 and 2, 4 and 1, 5 and none)
  • Let's Count Goats! by Mem Fox and Jan Thomas. Silly rhymes about goats doing all sorts of things meanwhile every other page asks the reader to count how many goats there are. Counting goes from 1 to 10.
  • One Naked Baby by Maggie Smith. Count up from 1 to 10 and then count back down from 10 to 1. The story follows a baby throughout the day, which starts and ends with one naked baby. Mostly for preschool-age.
